Wales is known for its stunning marine beaches, but little known is the intricacies of the gorgeous shoreline of the Llyn peninsula. There are some hidden coves here that blow your mind. Porth Iago
The crystal blue waters and white sands make for a Mediterranean appearance on the coast of North Wales when the sun rear’s its glorious shining face. It is accessible from a farm where there is parking, which costs a nominal fee. This is a fandabidozi place to spend a day, kayaking, canoeing or swimming.
Porth Ysgol
At the back of this mysterious beach is a gigantic 40ft waterfall that falls directly onto the beach. This, needless to say, is an amazing sight to behold for anyone who makes the trip to this mystical beachhead. It is accessible via a long flight of stairs – not at all easy access. The reward for spending time on this beach means that it is more than worth the trip. The farm at the top of the cliff is where you will find a car park.
Porthdinllaen
This is best known as the home of the Ty Coch inn where you can on occasion find amazing live music performances for all to enjoy. This pub was named the third best beach bar in the world, and it’s no surprise, the amazing panoramic views that this pub has is a reason to get involved.
Porth Towyn
A large, gorgeous and sandy beach that is a fantastic location for surfers to catch some waves, this is a tad quieter. Access is, again, through a farm which will lead you down to the grass slopes. There is a great deal of smaller and more exclusive hidden coves down.
Porth Neigwl / Hell’s Mouth
Perhaps the most famous beach on the Llyn Peninsula, this is a 3 miles long broad bay that faces the south-west, between the twin headlands of Mynydd Rhiw and Mynydd Cilan. This all makes it ideal for surfing! The waves on hell’s are considered some of the best in North Wales. You should check it out for yourself, bring the family and the dog if you fancy a day watching the surfers and chilling out.
