Visiting Caernarfon is a fantastic experience. It’s a part of North Wales which still remains truly Welsh, with the language spoken commonly, the well preserved history, and the incredible nature. If you would like to stay you also have a great choice of Caernarfon hotel to choose from.

The Nature and Views
There is so much beautiful nature in and around Caernarfon. First of all, it has some great sections of coastline to enjoy, and parts of this is included in the Wales Coastal Path. The Wales Coastal Path is a walking route which goes the entire way round the Welsh Coast. One beach to explore is Dinas Dinlle. From here you have views of the Llyn Peninsula and Anglesey.
Snowdonia is not far from Caernarfon, so there is lots to explore. Mount Snowdon, the tallest Mountain in Wales is just under half an hour away from the town. There are paths up Snowdon to suit most fitness and walking levels.
The History
Caernarfon is full of interesting history. Of course, there is Caernarfon Castle, a medieval castle which was built in the 13th Century for King Edward I as part of his plot to take over Wales. As well as the castle, there are town walls and the quay built alongside it that you can explore. It is cared for by an organisation named Cadw, you can find out more about the castle and its history here.
The battle site ‘Twithill’ for the War of the Roses is another historical point of interest. This battle took place in 1461 and was a series of English civil wars . The rocky mound was the look out spot for the castle, which had people on watch for enemies. This is also a good spot to get a panoramic view of the area.
The Town Centre
If you love having a browse round the local shops, then Caernarfon town centre has a lot to offer you. It has lovely individual and specialist shops run by locals, with choices of clothing, jewellery, crafts and fresh produce.
The high street in Caernarfon named Palace Street picked up an award in 2019 for being the ‘Welsh Rising Star’. This was a prize which recognised the streets growing popularity with independent businesses and strong sense of community.
The Arts and Creativity
Caernarfon got quite popular last year for its installation of 170 umbrellas in the town centre. The rainbow of brollies really stood out against the walls of the castle. This was installed by the tourist office Hwb Caernarfon, and a team of community volunteers.
Galeri Caernarfon is an interesting art space to visit. They have indie films available to watch in their cinema, musical theatre, art galleries and multiple workshops.
