Llandudno is one of North Wales’s premier tourist destinations with a series of excellent hotels in Llandudno all about and around it. It has so much to offer people of all ages and attracts many of the same people year after year. It is particularly popular with older people as it is a very flat place and very easy to walk around – but not boring to walk around either, which can be an issue with places which are accessible.
Looking out over the long promenade that stretches between two magnificent headlands the Little Orme and the Great Orme, you will always see an abundance of people strolling along taking in the magnificent views of the sea, the Great Orme and the long stretch of sympathetically maintained Victorian buildings that stretch the whole length of the promenade. These Victorian buildings are now predominantly Llandudno hotels North Wales, some of which are truly amazing sights to see – let alone stay in!
Llandudno Beaches
Llandudno really does have a wide variety of activities for all ages. It has two lovely beaches, the North Shore and the West Shore. The North Shore is an award winning beach, with a delightful crescent shape and excellent views. The grade II listed pier at the end is just magnificent, housing numerous kiosks, souvenir shops and rides which we’re sure you’ll enjoy.
It’s a lovely place to spend an afternoon whilst eating your fish and chips. West Shore has distinctive sand dunes and amazing views over the Conwy Mountains. It faces Anglesey and Snowdonia.
The Great Orme
The Great Orme is a must for any visitor to Llandudno, and there are many ways to reach the top. You can travel by cable car which is a distance of one mile each way, the longest aerial cabin lift in the UK, which was built in 1969. Travelling by cable car offers magnificent views over the wonderful and very unique Happy Valley Gardens, as well as the majestic limestone Great Orme Cliffs out to sea.
The Great Orme Tramway is another lovely way to travel to the top. The Tram was opened in 1902, and is the only cable operated street tramway surviving in the UK today, and only 3 of these are left in the world.
You can also drive to the top around Marine Drive which offers amazing views and has numerous places to park on-route so that you can take in the views.
The Summit
If you are feeling energetic then you can also walk to the summit. There are various routes to the top and as you can imagine the scenery is just superb. You can take the cable car or tram back to the bottom if you wish.
There are many things to do and explore on the Great Orme including the dry ski slopes, the copper mines, and copper miners village, mini golf and there is a large visitor’s centre at the top and also a restaurant and gift shop.
Llandudno has a wide selection of bars, restaurants and shops, with both high street stores and unique boutiques. Perfect for finding the ideal souvenir to remember your trip to Llandudno.
