Ruthin Craft Centre is one of the central attractions in the region. It is a centre of art, craft skills and creativity in the town of Ruthin. It is well worth a visit any day to see the remarkable gallery which always has new, insightful exhibitions rolling through. The retail gallery offers incredible and beautiful artistic pieces to buy as well as cards and gifts. There are several workshops with local crafters creating their art on display to passers-by and the delightful café is a treat after exploring the centre.
In addition to being a centre for art in the region Ruthin Craft Centre also hosts fantastic events throughout the year to get local people excited about art.
This Easter Ruthin Craft Centre has a wonderful collection of events for both adults and children to enjoy. First up, in the week leading up to the long Easter bank holiday weekend, is the Bookbinding Master class. This is the first of several wonderful events to get you feeling artistic this Easter and learn some great new skills while having fun. The Bookbinding Master class takes place on Wednesday the 16th of April in Ruthin Craft Centre from 11am until 3:30pm and this event is specifically aimed at older children between the ages of 11 and 14 who want to learn a more advanced skill. Bookbinding is an ancient skill that has been handed down throughout history and even in this age of modern technology it remains vital to connecting with our history and our literature. This event is £8 per person and you must book a place in advance.
The next Easter event at the craft centre is aimed at families. The Easter Holiday Family Activities will focus on ideas of precious jewels inspired by the Kevin Coates exhibition. This event is completely FREE but booking is essential. The children’s workshop will explore insects and small creatures using microscopes which will then inspire you to create your own collages and jewels in the Kevin Coates style. Children between 6 and 11 must be accompanied by an adult. The event will take place on Thursday 17th of April from 10:30am until 12:30pm or there is a latter session you can attend from 1:30pm until 3:30pm. This event will teach you a beautiful new skill and allow families to get in the Easter spirit ready for the weekend ahead.
The fun does not stop at Easter weekend because the Ruthin Craft centre is carrying on the fun by having activities in the week following Easter too. Come down to the craft centre on Wednesday the 23rd of April or Thursday the 24th of April and take part in Clay Figure creation with local expert ceramicist Katie Scarlett-Howard. The event will take place from 10:30am-12:30pm or 1:30pm-3:30pm and on Thursday the sessions will be 11am-3:30pm. The first session is aimed at the skill level of families with young children but 6-11 year olds must be accompanied by an adult. The cost is £5. The second day sessions are for 11-14 year olds and you should bring a packed lunch. The admittance is £8.
This is a great event for those with creative flair who like to get their hands dirty and really feel their creations. You will be guided in how to form human and animal figures out of clay.
The final event of the Easter Holiday Activities at the craft centre is Lost Keys. This is a special drop in workshop on Friday the 25th of April from 11am-3:30pm. It is absolutely free and there is no need to book. Bring along keys to cast to make collaboration art work.
