The renowned, week long North Wales International Music Festival is back for 2014. This September from the 20th until the 27th North Wales will welcome some of the best classical musicians and groups to perform for us.
The performances will take place in the beautiful setting of St Asaph Cathedral. This provides a beautiful, ancient building that is part of our local history and culture to host beautiful music from the classical genre. Wales has long been known for its contributions to the arts so where better to have this excellent event take place.

Rehearsals are deep underway for all those performing in the festival and if it is anything like last year it will certainly be full of rich and beautiful performances. Last year we got to watch top talent such as the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Swingle Singers, La Serenissima and many more. The line-up for 2014 has already taken shape with the best acts in classical music planned for everyday of the festival.
On the opening day, Saturday 20th September, St Asaph welcomes guitarist Jonathon Richards, a choral workshop from Jenny Pearson and pianist Llyr Williams.
On Sunday the 21st there will be the festival Eucharist in the morning and an Aspire Inspire Concert in the evening. Monday brings a lecture on Dylan Thomas, the performance of Under Milk Wood Jazz Suite and the Meditation by Candlelight performance with conductor Paul Mealor.
On Tuesday 22nd there is Music and the Word composed especially fir junior and secondary school students and The William Mathias 80th Anniversary Concert. William Mathias is the founder of the North Wales International Music Festival and the concert is dedicated to his works.
On Wednesday there us a schools concert, young children’s concert and the evening has classical guitarist Xuefei Yang playing the festival for the first time.
On the Thursday the Tippett String Quartet will play and there there will be the schools project association with CASW and St Asaph Cathedral.
On Friday there will be a performance of Entertaining Miss Austen by pianist David Owen Jones, a piano master class and the Mid Wales Opera will perform Acis and Galatea.
The event concludes on Saturday 27th with a perform by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
This is a fantastic cultural event for everyone in North East Wales to attend.
