Few places in Cheshire are as steeped in history as Ellesmere Port as it is often noted for being a place of importance during Britain’s early industrial years. There’s one event coming up this month that celebrates the past and is bound to be great for all members of the family.
The History Fun Day is fast approaching and is all set to be a great occasion which not only entertains but also educates – perfect if you want the young ones to take in a bit of history! The National Waterways Museum is often frequented and full of life but it will be especially so on the 21st and 22nd of June.
Based at the Ellesmere Port docks, the museum is a great escape from the bustle of the city as time almost slows down when you invest your interest in all the great things there are to see and do there. The indoor displays are fascinating and the boat trips are a great way to explore some of Cheshire’s past.
When you consider that the renowned Thomas Telford, famed for many acts of civil engineering across the country, was responsible for the design of the docks, you can be assured of its beauty and attraction.
As for what’s going on at the event itself, there will be many different performers all dressed up to reflect the attire of days gone by throughout the museum and along the canal. There will be all kinds of re-enactors channelling the spirit of eras over the past 100 years of Cheshire’s illustrious history so if you see soldiers on your morning walk along the canal, there is no need for concern! Also expect to see sailors, merchants, housewives and more bringing some vivacity to the historic area this month.
