If you are based in Little Sutton and are a fan of the hugely popular Downton Abbey then a fantastic exhibition is taking place right now, only 17 minutes’ drive away, that could be perfect for you.
Little Sutton is based on the border of Cheshire and the Wirral only 17 minutes away from the famous Lady Lever Art Gallery. This gallery often hosts intriguing and beautiful exhibitions, workshops and events that art enthusiasts will enjoy, but from October 10th until January 18th 2015, there will be an extra special exhibition running that might garner a much wider appeal.
Downton Abbey is a beloved and critically acclaimed programme not just thanks to its exquisite story writing and acting but also because of the beautiful period costumes, particularly the gowns and dresses of the female cast. Now the Lady Lever Art Gallery is running a great exhibition entitled ‘Style from the Small Screen’, which will actually showcase ten exquisite dresses that were created for the Downton Abbey series.
If you head down to the Lady Level Art Gallery from now until January 18th you could see stunning gowns worn by characters such as the Dowager Countess of Grantham and Lady Grantham. The best part is the exhibition is free entry so you can easily get up close to the real dresses of the characters from Downton Abbey just by heading to the gallery.
One of the most fascinating parts of the exhibit is how it examines the costumes against real historic garments of the period 1912-1923. In this exhibition you can also see historic period gowns from the National Museum’s Liverpool Collection, including two costumes that have never been displayed before and an outfit that belonged to the Liverpool Lady, Mrs Tinne.
This is a great exhibition for anyone based in the Wirral who loves art, Downton Abbey or period fashion.
