It is North Wales turn to host the Eisteddfod (it alternates every year between North and South) and it is Denbigh’s turn to host for 2013! The Eisteddfod may well be called the most important event in Wales; it certainly is one of the biggest Welsh cultural events.
The national Eisteddfod will take place from the 2nd of August to the 10th August. You will find the Eisteddfod spanning several large fields across Kilford farm on the outskirts of Denbigh this year.
The Eisteddfod’s main focus is Welsh music, Welsh literature, dance, theatre, art, photography, this event is booming with Welsh culture. The Eisteddfod reaches far back into Welsh history and heritage, going back centuries, probably beyond.
Roughly one 150,000 visitors are expected, judging from previous years. Many visitors stay for the entire weeklong event. It is not just fun for local people. People journey from all over the world to experience the Eisteddfod. The event combines Wales’ most cherished traditions with big stages and live performances.
There are usually over 300 stalls at Eisteddfod selling everything you can imagine. There is delicious food, traditional Welsh crafts, clothes, jewellery and everything else! There will be activities suitable for the whole family throughout the week.
The Eisteddfod features both traditional and alternative stalls and entertainment to celebrate Wales’ past and its present with pride.
This event is a great experience for those learning, or wishing to learn, Welsh. The Maes D is the centre for Welsh learning at the event and there are plenty of activities for Welsh learners going on all week. You can witness Druid singing, hundreds of competitions, traditional Welsh folk dancing and much more.
