North Wales has a variety of fascinating native wildlife and none are more mysterious than our night time creatures. Living in the beauty of the Denbigh countryside you will already be aware of the adorable daytime wildlife from rabbits to butterflies and many birds, however there are incredible local creatures rarely glimpsed due to their nocturnal lifestyles.
This August you can join local experts to discover one of the most interesting night time native creatures, the bats. The ‘Denbigh Discover Bats’ walk will take place on the 7th of August from 8:30pm until 10:30pm and the event is totally free so there is no excuse to miss the wonderful exploration into the world of bats.
August makes a perfect time of year for bat sighting in the late evening. The days are not quite so long as in June and July but there is plenty of residual light for us to see by at this time and the warmer months, increased number of flying insects in the evening and twilight illumination mean the bats will be out earlier than other times of year.
This event consists of a 3 mile walk around the most beautiful parts of Denbigh. This charming fortress town is home to majestic ancient woodlands, which makes the ideal environment for wildlife sightings. The walk will also take you along the walls of our town and around the ancient castle ruins. The nooks and crannies of this old castle make a great environment for bats and so Denbigh is one of the best places you can imagine for a bat walk in North East Wales.
If you are fascinated by these incredible creatures then you will need to book a place on the walk soon as there is only a couple of weeks left. There will be bat detectors provided but if you are already an avid bat watcher and have your own please bring it along to save on lending equipment.
