Colwyn Bay Prom Day is back! Although this year (2013), it has had a makeover – with a name change to ‘Prom Xtra’. Traditionally, the event has taken place on the first Bank Holiday in May – but this year has been organised for the weekend of the 18th – 19th May 2013.
Prom Xtra is taking place during the same weekend that the much anticipated ‘Porth Eirias’ opens – the new watersports centre that has been built upon new flood defences and the brand new beach. They were constructed so that there will always be a fantastic sandy area for beach goers in Colwyn Bay and less flooding onto the promenade during choppy winter weather.
The traditional fun fair with fairground rides, market stalls, side shows, music shows and games will be giving Colwyn Bay, Rhos-on-Sea and Old Colwyn’s promenade a real buzz, with a great weekend in store! The fun stretches over 2 miles of beach and promenade, making it the biggest and best ‘Prom Day’ to date!
The fun begins at Glan y Mor Road (Old Colwyn slip road to the A55) and stretches the entire promenade up to Marine Road. From the Old Colwyn side, you will enter the outdoor zone that has plenty of attractions and fairground rides to get your adrenaline pumping. You’ll also see the Top Gear Experience, where you cant test drive a Bugatti Veyron or Caterham in a simulator around the famous Top Gear track.
Porth Eirias is set to open on Saturday 18th, with plenty going on in and around the establishment. Free running shows are taking place here at 10:00, 12:00, 1:30 and 3:45, so you can see some supreme skill (and bravery!) Between Porth Eirias and the Pier is the much loved funfair, that is well regarded as one of the most colorful and liveliest parts of Prom Xtra, with fairground rides for absolutely everyone. Past the pier is the shopping zone, where markets, stalls, charities and exhibits will be set up for you to enjoy.
If this wasn’t enough, from 5pm to 9pm, at Porth Eirias – there is an evening of free live music to celebrate the launch of Porth Eirias and Prom Xtra’s new face!
