Christmas at Chester Cathedral is a remarkable month long event of services, events and displays all inside a spectacular and awe inspiring piece of architecture.
Chester Cathedral is an incredibly beautiful and historical structure with so much to witness so it is well worth a visit to Chester at any time of year to see the mesmerising cathedral.
Every year Chester Cathedral delivers the Christmas season in style, offering a tranquil and reflective celebration for all. Tourists come from all over to visit the Cathedral particularly at this time of year and locals come from all over the Cheshire region to see the Cathedral at its best.
This December you can explore services, concerts, tours, food the gift shop and the Christmas Tree Festival, which will be seeing its debut this year.
There will be a variety of services on offer you can attend during the Christmas period this winter.
On the 1st of December the Advent Carol Service will welcome the start of Christmas time. This will include a beautiful candle light procession. The service will begin at 6:30pm for those wishing to attend.
The 15th of December brings the Chester Cathedral Nave Choir Carol Service with impressive singing performances beginning at 3:30pm.
On the 23rd you can attend the service of the Nine Lessons and Carols at 6pm with another chance to attend the Nine Lessons on Christmas Eve at 3pm. Christmas Eve also offers Carols and the Crib Service at 5:30pm with the Midnight Mass Service beginning at 11:30pm. This will include singing by Chester cathedral Nave Choir.
On Christmas Day services include Holy Communion with carols at 8am, a sung Eucharist will take place at 10am, a Book of Common Prayer Choral Eucharist Service will begin at 11:45am. Please note that following this service the cathedral will be closed to all visitors on Christmas Day after 1pm so keep this in mind when planning your visits to visit the Cathedral outside of its events.
On Boxing Day at 1:10pm there will be an Organ Recital for visitors to enjoy.
Christmas at the Cathedral includes more than just religious services there is also a selection of events on concerts on if you are looking for great events to entertain you this December. Christmas at the cathedral begins in the 29th of November and finishes on the 31st of December with the Tree Festival continuing on until the 6th of January 2014.
Choral Evensong services are extremely popular and are available at the Cathedral throughout the ‘Christmas at the Cathedral’ period every day except for Wednesdays. On Mondays, Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays this takes place at 5:30pm, on Saturdays it begins at 4:14pm and 3:30pm on Sundays.
During Christmas at the Cathedral you can gain free entry to the cloisters to see the Christmas Tree Festival. This is a first for the Cathedral this year. The lighting of the cloisters will take place and there will be 40 beautiful Christmas trees to add sparkle and wonder to the cathedral this December. You can even vote for your favourite Christmas tree.
There will be many more events in addition to this including the Spirit of Christmas Concert at 7:30pm on the 6th of December and plenty of performances, recitals and music concerts.
