The town of Little Sutton is based on the Wirral Peninsula and is near a selection of other fantastic Wirral towns, attractions and events. Only a short train journey away on the direct Wirral line is the town of Port Sunlight, home of the stunning Lady Lever Art Gallery.
If you are based in the Wirral this summer and autumn, you will want to head to the Lady Lever Art Gallery for the excellent collection of events surrounding Rossetti’s art.
Those in literary and artistic circles will be well versed in the Rossetti family but even novices will have probably heard of and encountered the works of the Rossetti siblings.
All the Rossetti children were gifted in the arts with the poet Christina Rossetti, her sister the author Maria Rossetti, her critic brother William Rossetti and the central figure of the exhibitions and events at the Lady Lever Art Gallery, the works of their brother Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
A special exhibition surrounding ‘Rossetti’s Obsession’ has been taking place since June 20th at the Gallery and will run until the 21st of September as you explore Rossetti’s fixation with Jane Morris, the star of more than 30 of his paintings, drawings, photographs and more. The depictions of Jane Morris are considered some of his best works and that is why the Lady Lever Art Gallery is inviting you to a series of events to celebrate and encounter these works.
There will be four different kinds of events surrounding Rossetti at the gallery including ‘The Art of Music’, ‘A Stitch in Time’, the ‘Rossetti Tour’ and ‘Drawing the Human Form’.
August the 6th was your last chance to experience The Art of Music Events but there are several chances left to enjoy the rest of the Rossetti events.
‘A Stitch in Time’ takes place on the 19th August from 1-4pm and also on the 3rd September from 1pm-4pm. This is a free drop in event so there is no need to book and you have the opportunity to meet members of the Wirral Guild of Embroiderers as they work on textiles inspired by the designs of William Morris.
The Rossetti Tour is one of the best events to attend to experience the works of Rossetti. This is a free drop in event so you do not have to book and you can meet the curator of fine art from Cartwright Hall Art Gallery who will take you on a tour of Rossetti’s works. The first opportunity to see this tour will be on the 4th of September, with other chances on the 9th September, 11th September and the 17th of September.
‘Drawing the Human Form’ is a workshop event helping you to use colour pastel techniques to render the human form. You must book in advance for this event. Although this event runs on several days this autumn some days have already been fully booked up so you will want to act fast if you wish to attend. The 10th 1pm-4pm, 11th and 18th September workshops are already fully booked but you still have a chance to book for the 10th 2pm, 16th, 17th 1pm-4pm and 17th 2pm workshops so contact the gallery soon.
