One of the biggest UK events is passing right through Merseyside and the Wirral this year.
The Tour of Britain is taking place this September and will pass from Liverpool to Knowsley and then on towards North Wales in its first and second stages.
The Tour of Britain in the UK’s biggest professional cycling event and also the country’s largest free to spectate event, attracting millions of roadside spectators every year.
The Tour of Britain will begin on Sunday the 7th September as the competitors set off from
Liverpool city centre and then cover 104.8km as they head out towards Knowsley. This is the perfect opportunity for everyone living in Merseyside and Wirral areas to get easy access to one of the biggest and best sporting events of the year.
The Tour of Britain comprises of eight stages. After completing the first stage on Sunday the second stage takes the cyclists to Llandudno. From there they will traverse 179.7km from Newtown to Tumble. Next they will head over 184.6km from Worcester to Bristol. Then in stage five they will cover 177.3km as they cycle from Exmouth to Exeter. After that it is just an exhausting 205.7km from Bath to Hemel Hempstead, followed by 226km from Camberley to Brighton.
The race concludes on Sunday the 14th September with its final stage, stage eight, in London City centre. Of course the first stages will be of most interest to Little Sutton and Ellesmere Port locals as this passes so close to their hometowns. It will be a wonderful event bringing many smaller towns close to one of most important annual sporting events of the year.
The race is sponsored by Friends of Life and you will not want to miss the start as there will be an interactive ordnance survey map on the main stage in Liverpool and there will be several associated events to encourage local people to get into cycling too.
