The Victorian Extravaganza is almost upon us, and the multitude of hotels in Llandudno are starting to dust up and prepare for the (fun!) onslaught ahead. The Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza is an event which takes place the first bank holiday of every May, and has a history of driving visitors to the town, one of the only ones in the UK which are still in their original Victorian splendour.

The locals of Llandudno take to the Extravaganza like ducks to water, the braver of them donning Victorian wigs, frills and frippery in order to join eccentric stage personalities on varying stages throughout Llandudno. There are a series of parades scheduled demonstrating the beauty of the Victorian Steam engines which have lovingly been brought back to life and maintained by enthusiasts, as well as a number of entertainments such as side shows. There’s even going to be a Victorian School set up in the historic 16 Trinity Square in the heart of Llandudno this year!

You may wonder where the perfect hotel in Llandudno to enjoy the festivities is. After all, when you attend something like the Victorian Extravaganza, going to a bog standard Holiday Inn just won’t cut it! There’s a fantastic and very historical building on the seafront named the St Tudno Hotel, and it embraces the Victorian Extravaganza completely and utterly. This building boasts a big connection to these ancient times, for it is there that the Liddell family, as well as the very notable little Alice, first discovered their love for Llandudno on some very happy holidays, accompanied by family friend Lewis Carroll. Alice of course became the inspiration for the most important children’s book of all time, Alice in Wonderland.

The St Tudno Hotel in Llandudno has very many more accolades under its belt as well. Classed as a heritage building, the hotel has a very remarkable restaurant known as The Terrace, the winner of very many mentions in the Michelin Eating Guide as well as the winner of numerous AA Rosettes. As for Hotel service, St Tudno is in a league of its own with very many awards and even more happy customers.

Should you wish to visit beautiful Llandudno and take part in the Victorian Extravaganza, we can’t think of a better place to stay in order to embrace the Victorian weekend a little while longer!
