Should you not have anything of worth (or anything left…) to take, the HMRC will take money directly from your earnings, or your bank account if appropriate. These deductions can go on for years. In 2016, the guidelines for which were that those who earn less than £30,000 a year can have £3000 deducted on an annual basis by the HMRC.
Should an individual not have any savings or employment to speak of, the HMRC can even cash an individual’s pension and use that if it is established that there is one to use.
It’s terrifying.
It’s beyond terrifying to realise that you’ve made a mistake on your taxes which means that the HMRC are looking in your direction.
