#1 – Visit the Cattery
Visiting the cattery in advance is more for your peace of mind as an owner. Ask to be shown around the facilities, have a look at how the other cats are behaving and what the staff are like; this should help to put your mind at ease.
#2 – Pet Carrier
Try to leave the pet carrier out in your cat’s favourite room for a couple of days before you take them to the cattery. This way, they will become more used to the sight and presence of the box and will be less unsettled by being placed into it. You will need to make sure that your cat is up-to-date with vaccinations and is in good health prior to a stay in a cattery. You should also provide the cattery with all current medical information as well as vet contact numbers. If your cat requires any medication, ensure you take enough, plus a few extra days just in case of emergencies.
#5 – Remain Calm
When dropping off your cat, remain calm and act normal. They are able to pick up on your emotions, so if you’re stressed and worried, they will be too. Staying calm will ensure that your cat won’t get too worked up or upset.
#6 – Book in Advance
Don’t leave booking a cattery stay until the last minute! Spaces fill up quickly, and you don’t need the stress of finding a new cattery at short notice. Once you’ve found a cattery that your cat is happy and comfortable with, you’ll want to stick with it for life!
