Now everyone must cook, and I’m sure that everyone finds it to some extent a little inconvenient. There are some small obstacles which are getting in the way of you becoming the next Gordon Ramsey or Jamie Oliver.
Well, we’ve collated a list of tips and tricks to help you overcome these minor but time-consuming annoyances and streamline your way to culinary success.
Peel ginger with a spoon
Peeling ginger can be something of an arduous task if truth be told, getting the pesky skin from the root is difficult for a knife, or a peeler. So, what must one do to rid yourself of the difficult protective layer?
Well the answer, believe it or not is a simple spoon. If you use the spoon’s edge you will find it’s not so sharp as to easily come away from the root, and blunt enough to catch the outer layer and easily peel the root. Give it a go!
Small strainer
This tool is under-owned by many people and is actually very useful for a couple of jobs which will surprise you. The first of these uses is as its made-for function regarding citrus fruit. For a lemon and lime for example, it can be cleaved in-twine and then pushed through the small strainer, directly into the pot.
There is no need to pick out those obnoxious seeds and you can quickly continue with the cooking. The second and perhaps more surprising of these uses is that it is the perfect container for making a perfect shaped poached egg. Crack the eggs into a strainer and swish it around to make a perfectly formed egg-shaped egg.
Egg shells
This point relates with the last. There is nothing quite so troublesome as a tiny piece of eggshell within your mix or the egg white. And you’re desperately trying to remove it. The answer is to use an existing, large fraction of eggshell which you can firmly hold with your hand. Egg shells are like magnets towards each other, and will stick against one another, making the job of extraction that much easier.
Think like a production line
This might be obvious, but you need to think of your cooking systematically, just like a factory line, so plan your tasks efficiently. Do your tasks as a batch, for example, if you are slicing onion, you must peel it, cut off the ends, cut in half and then dice. This means a lot of potential wasted time, putting puts of green into the bin, picking up your knife. However, if you first peel ALL the onions, and then cut them ALL horizontally, then ALL vertically, then dice them ALL. And soon you will find that your efficiency has been drastically improved. Utilising fitted kitchens North Wales is going to give you the best layout for food production.
Have a garbage bowl handy
Having a specific bowl especially for waste products will speed up your production as it will give you a place to put all your bits, peels, skins and anything unwanted, you can then put this all in the compost at the same time at the end of the cooking process. This will save you running back and forth between the compost bin and your work station.
Partially freeze meat
If you place your meat in the freezer for just the right amount of time, you will have a nice frosty form for your meat and it will be ever so slightly easier to cut to the desired shape. Rather than dealing with floppy and squishy meat, a firm material to work with will make your job ever so slightly that much easier.
