K Rend comes in a variety and colours and textures to achieve a range of attractive finishes for your home. Each texture is easy to apply and leaves great results but when applying any exterior render there is a best way to do to achieve the highest quality, desired results. Each texture has a different best technique to gain the right finish.
Scraped Texture
The scraped texture is a popular choice in the K Rend range and requires two coats. The first coat should be applied directly onto the block work and it is recommended that 16mm thickness is achieved minimum to avoid ‘ghosting’ (blockwork becoming visible through the render).
The material should be applied 18mm in two passes, one which is 6 – 8mm and the second which is 12mm – 14mm. After it is set 2mm is ‘scraped’ so the thickness will be back to 16mm.
Scraping should take place when the render is set but not yet fully hardened. The timing will vary due to weather conditions but it is usually recommended that the scraping be done the day after application. A good way to check if it is ready is when you cannot make a thumb impression but the render can still be marked with a thumb nail.
Brush down immediately after scraping to remove loose materials and highlight any neglected areas that need redoing.
The finish coat should be applied after a K Rend base coat is applied to line level, using a darby or straight edge to a thickness of 10mm. Try to avoid small hollows for the best finish.
