When it comes to choosing just the right place to get your MOT Conwy, the choices can be completely and entirely daunting. It seems that every little town in North Wales has at least three garages, for instance! As if the amount of choice wasn’t enough to contend with, there’s the opinions of those around us. Friends and family can make the choice even less clearer, and there is always conflicting feedback which can make just choosing the right garage to get an MOT quite the task.
This guide hopes to provide advice in order to get the best value for your money with your MOT, as well as point you to reputable garages.
The first thing to know is that there are many different types of MOTs in Conwy. For instance, there’s main dealer garages such as North Wales Honda in Llandudno. These garages have an edge over your typical independent garage via the virtue that they are associated with a particular car manufacturer and just so happen to be kitted out with all of the latest equipment.
It stands to sense to go to a main dealer garage for your MOT and subsequent repairs. A car is a top-of-the-range and very complex machine, so it makes sense to use a garage which happens to have everything which is needed for complex repairs – especially when they’re discovered as part of your MOT.
Fast Fit garages, such as larger chains (we’re not saying any names here, but we have a feeling you know who they are!), are a bit of a mixed bag. The advantages of these are that for smaller things, they can often be the cheapest… but that doesn’t guarantee you good service, a speedy MOT, or perks such as a car to use while yours is being tested.
The most disconcerting thing, for us at least, with fast fit repair centres is that you’re treated as a package when you walk in from the moment you leave, and these large chain garages may not be the right choice for you – especially when it comes to more complex repairs which are usually out of the garages’ specifications.
There’s always independent garages, but they are unfortunately going the the way of the dinosaur. Indeed, the automotive repair business is a rather competitive one, and independents are generally struggling with keeping up to speed with the levels of service and capabilities of the dealer garages, and can struggle to compete with the pricing of fast fit garages.
