North Wales is a varied and wonderful region, with a multitude of things to do and experience. Whether your poison is ziplining off cliffsides, exploring Wales’ tumultuous history or even a more laid back approach like the wonderful Bodnant Gardens, the North Wales region is varied and expansive, with attraction after attraction spread out over a wonderfully large area. The Groes Inn in particular is a wonderful find; this historic coach house dates back to 1573 and has a vast history. Officially the oldest Inn in Wales, the Groes Inn features a fantastic marriage of old and new- in the form of new decoration and a very high-end feel meeting perfectly with this remarkable building’s old styled character features. Even the outside is a treat for the eyes. This beautiful house is almost entirely covered in ivy.
That’s not all that’s exceptional about this utterly charming inn. The Groes Inn pride themselves on delivering locally produced fare which is locally sourced. Their restaurant has proved so popular in fact, that recently they stated that due to popular demand, they’re open all week. Considering most accommodation-based restaurants only open 2-3 nights a week, the fact that it opens as a restaurant in it’s own right certainly speaks highly of it’s fare!
Indeed, their meals certainly have the wow factor. How about a starter of kedgeree, flaked haddock, curried rice and boiled eggs, followed by slow cooked pork belly, haggis mashed potato, spiced apple and madeira sauce? To finish off on a particularly excellent note, we recommend that you try their delectable combination of zingy lemon posset, perfectly balanced with shortbread biscuits and finished off with crystallised ginger for an extra pop.
Eating at the Groes Inn is absolutely exceptional, and any stay in the Conwy Valley would be made even more so with a visit to this charming and handsome converted coach house.
