Most of us are fortunate enough to live without incident, without injury and without anything substantially going wrong in our lives. But, that’s not the case for all of us. An injury can happen to absolutely anyone, and if it happens to you- things can feel completely daunting. When something happens – be it slips, trips or falls, road traffic accidents, or accidents that are a direct result of employer negligence, it really feel like the end of the world. There are a slew of daytime TV advertisements telling you that that certain solicitors are in your corner, but are they as invested as they could be? There are a number of solicitors in North Wales that deal in personal injury cases on a no win, no fee basis – but they don’t deal with these agencies.
Imagine something awful happened to you. You wouldn’t be able to work or take care of matters important to you, such as your family or your friends. In the case of traumatic injury, perhaps you’d need treatments that the NHS generally don’t offer- such as counselling. Your first port of call would be to likely contact one of the well-known personal injury solicitors you see advertised heavily on television. That’s usually when you’d find – to your dismay – that this personal injury solicitor isn’t actually one. It’s an agent; a collection agency that filters personal injury cases to firms willing to pay a premium to get “business” – in this example, your case. More often than not, a solicitor recommendation is based upon your address, not quality of service or specialisation – and certainly not your needs.
Personal injury cases can go on for months and even years – especially should the defending company, business or individual decide to not accept liability. The unending mounds of paperwork can often leave some clients left in the dark as to what is currently going on with their case; especially when contact is limited thanks to more and more individuals being “delivered” to your solicitor by the agencies on a daily basis.
Not all personal injury solicitors accept business by referral via one of these agencies. Not all personal injury solicitors handle their cases on a conveyor belt.
As your case progresses and you receive an offer, it’s up to you to decide what’s appropriate – and you shouldn’t feel pressured by your solicitor to settle. Whether you would like to accept an offer or not, it’s your call – and it’s your solicitor’s job to advise you on how to get the best result for you, not for their conveyor belt.
