What do you look for when you go on holiday? For many, the great British Holiday is synonymous with the seaside, and of course old grand seaside resorts are still very much in the style of which they were created – for better or for worse. The same can be said for the range of seafront hotels to stay in on your break. Cheap and cheerful might very well be the order of the day when it comes to holidaying in the UK, but there’s one resort in North Wales – Llandudno – which provides wonderfully nostalgic breaks without being tatty, even in the slightest. Again, the same can be said for the hotels. There are a number of seafront hotels in Llandudno which can offer opulent luxury, without feeling neglected by the passage of time.
What does Llandudno have that other seafront resorts in the UK doesn’t? Quite a lot, really.
Llandudno was created as an upmarket resort for the rather rich in Victorian times, and even now it has truly stood the test of time. While indeed staying in Llandudno nowadays is actually pretty reasonable, the seaside town has managed to retain all of it’s grandeur and all of the style of yesteryear, whether it’s from Professor Codman’s Punch and Judy Show on the promenade (which is literally still run by the Codman family!) to the understated beauty of Llandudno’s Mostyn Street, this old girl’s still got it. It’s obvious.
Essentially, Llandudno has been able to buck the trend of decline which tends to be displayed by most seaside resorts across the UK, and has been voted the Number 1 Seaside Resort in the UK throughout 2016 and 2017 – as well as being in Lonely Planet’s Top 10 List of destinations to visit in 2016. What makes Llandudno so special though?
It’s quality, essentially.
Llandudno has a number of North Wales hotels, that’s for sure – it seems that a stroll along the promenade shows the fact that you’ll more than likely lose count of the amount of hotels and B&Bs which line the shoreline. Each and every hotel within Llandudno is of course lovely, but there’s some really exceptional ones on the North Parade which have actually won worldwide achievements. The Elm Tree Hotel, for instance. This quiet, unassuming hotel might be called quite small in comparison to behemoths like the Imperial and St Georges’ Hotel, but this little seafront hotel in Llandudno consistently wins awards on a worldwide basis.
Yes, you heard that right.
The Elm Tree Hotel in Llandudno is the winner of the 2017 TripAdvisor award for the Best Bargain Hotel in the World. A truly fine hotel indeed, it’s really not hard to see why. The hotel’s exterior is tasteful, and the patio has perhaps the best view in all of Llandudno.
Step inside, and you’ll step into an immaculately clean (but welcoming) environment which, in a direct reversal from using furnishings and décor which is considered old hat, has interiors that’ll make you feel envious. Everything is modern, tasteful, and completely and utterly contemporary – but the standard of service at the Elm Tree Hotel goes right back to basics. Your hosts, Carol and Tom, are attentive and customer conscious the entire way through, and well and truly can’t do enough to make sure that your stay in Llandudno shines.
